Blood Pressure Check

Blood Pressure Check

In addition to illness and death, COVID-19 leaves in its wake fear, uncertainty, loneliness, trauma and more. In a word, it turns lives upside down. None have been more heavily affected than our New American population, and for this reason, CFNA determined to slowly restart its Health and Wellness Screening ministry.

Due to the limiting factors imposed by social distancing guidelines, the ministry re-merged slowly. Initial screenings served only six to ten people. Gradually, however, as growing numbers of partners provided an increasing amount of PPE (masks, gloves, face shields, gowns, etc.) the number of visitors began to increase. This was due in no small part to our community facilitators, who successfully recruited a growing number of clients.

Our partnership with the St. Louis University School of Nursing helped even more. They not lonely provided skilled volunteers, but also a volunteer coordinator who helped organize the entire effort. Moreover, their commitment to this ministry extends through the remainder of this academic year.

These good efforts inspired the gratitude of many. Charles, who sought help for his diabetic mother, a refugee from the Congo, shared, “thank you for your help with screening and assistance with medical appointments. We were really blessed to have your assistance during this pandemic.”

As an immigrant and as someone committed to providing medical care, I also thank the volunteers who willingly provided this service. Moreover, without our partnership with the SLU School of Nursing, the re-emergence of the CFNA sponsored Health and Wellness Screening ministry would have been long delayed. Please join us in thanking them and others who continue to volunteer for this ministry.
