Sewing Smiles

Sewing Class

I paid Maryam for completing a project and her smile was 6 ft. wide. She said, “This is the first money I have earned in America!” Maryam is one of our beautiful Afghan women. She came during the dramatic withdrawal from Afghanistan of many who had worked with and protected our military. These women love to sew and embroider. Some were tailors in their own country. Afghans continue to come.

“For such a time as this,” we are blessed to have Shirley Drown volunteering to guide our sewing program with expertise and kindness. This is the time for the ladies to learn conversational English, to socialize, to learn job skills, and several now have jobs, to choose donated cloth to make clothes for their families, and to earn some money. It’s a time to have vision and hearing screenings and to learn to install a car seat correctly. We have limited childcare.

“For such a time as this,” we have the privilege of sharing our faith walk in Word and deed with these beautiful, strong women, our sisters who are also the daughters of Abraham. Please call Carol if you would like to be involved: (314) 517-8513.
