Golf Event
/The Ninth Annual CFNA Golf Benefit was held at Greenbriar Hills Country Club on Monday, October 11, 2021. Many prayers went up during the morning as storms threatened to interfere with the event, but God answered by clearing the skies just in time for the 12:00 pm shotgun start.
With a record 136 golfers registered, the event was sold out six weeks early. Indeed, there was a waiting list! When asked about what they liked the most, many golfers answered, “the fellowship”. John Bush said his team also talked about the work CFNA is doing. “What I saw when I first arrived was the sign about the number of Baptisms and Confirmations that CFNA has had a hand in. I believe the number was 150. Wow! That was talked about a lot in my foursome, and we had the sense of the Spirit being very active and alive in the ministry.”
During the hospitality hour, those attending heard from Homa Zafer, CFNA’s facilitator for work among the Afghan refugees. Homa grew up in Afghanistan as part of a Muslim family. After the family had to flee to Pakistan, Homa became a believer, converted to Christianity, and is now a confirmed member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Kirkwood. Fluent in Pashto and Dari, and well known in the St. Louis Afghan community, she brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to the task of reaching out to the Afghan refugees arriving in St. Louis.
Financial and in-kind donations were received from 32 sponsors – another record! Our thanks to all of them, many of whom have supported the Golf Benefit since its inception 9 years ago. But the Golf Benefit isn’t just about raising money. According to Joe and Joanie Harwell, “The Golf Benefit provides an avenue for all golfers and volunteers to support CFNA financially AND learn about opportunities to connect directly with immigrants and refugees.”
We thank God for our golfers, sponsors, committee members, and volunteers for another successful event!
